Allard Shines as Cards Turn Back Heidelberg

WESTERVILLE, OHIO - The Otterbein University women's basketball team improved to 6-9 on the season, and 2-6 in league play, with a 62-44 victory over visiting Heidelberg University (1-13, 0-7 OAC) Wednesday evening in the Rike Center.

Heidelberg jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead, but the Cards responded to eventually take a 19-14 lead by the 10:04 mark behind the hot play of freshman Maggie Allard.

The Student Princes kept it close, trailing just 25-22 with under five minutes remaining in the half, but Otterbein strung together a few successful possessions and would head into halftime ahead 40-28.

Allard marked the only player in double figures at the break, tallying 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a three-pointer in the closing seconds.

The teams combined to score just five points in the opening seven minutes of the second frame, but Otterbein found its stride and used an 11-0 run to bust open a 51-30 advantage.

The Student Princes would pose no real threat the remainder of the way.

Allard led all scorers with a career-best 17 points, while junior guard Kristi Kotterman finished with 12.

Jenny Miller led Heidelberg with a double-double, registering ten points and 11 rebounds.

Otterbein shot .383 from the field while managing to hold Heidelberg to just .277 shooting.

The team stays at home for the rest of the week, hosting Wilmington Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
