NEW CONCORD, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s basketball team (5-9, 1-6 OAC) came up just short in a 58-57 loss at Muskingum University (6-7, 4-2 OAC) Saturday afternoon.
The Cards took an early 7-3 lead, but the hosts battled back and would hold the largest lead of the first half at 22-16 with 7:13 remaining before the half.
Otterbein rattled off the next six points to even the contest, and would head to the locker rooms with a slim 34-32 advantage.
The game saw two ties early in the second half, and the scoring would slow down as the contest remained tied at 42-42 with 9:54 to play.
Muskingum then sprinted on a 7-0 run to go up 49-42, but couldn’t pull away as the Cards eventually drew even again at 55-55, and then again at 57-57.
A Muskie free-throw put the hosts ahead 58-57 with a minute to go, and the Cards came up empty with three shot attempts in the final seconds.
Junior Shea McCoy led Otterbein with 22 points while backcourt mate Kristi Kotterman finished with ten.
Sophomore forward Rachel Snedegar pulled down a game-high ten rebounds for Otterbein, which won he rebounding battle 38-27.
The Cards return home to host Heidelberg University Wednesday evening, with starting time set for 7:30 p.m.
