Lady Cardinals Fall to Muskingum

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s basketball team suffered a 67-63 loss to visiting Muskingum University Saturday evening in the Rike Center.

The Cardinals remain in the eighth spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings, but fall to 10-13 overall and 6-10 in leage play with the loss.

Muskingum moves to 11-12 on the season and 9-7 against league schools.

The game was tied early at 8-8, and again at 15-15 before Otterbein went on a quick 8-0 run to take a 23-15 lead by the 10:19 mark.

The Cards remained on top at 27-20 with less than seven minutes to go before the half, but the Muskies hung tough over the next five minutes to battle back and tie the game at 27-27 before going into halftime ahead 32-30.

Otterbein opened the second half on a 12-2 run, taking a 42-34 lead by the 14:47 mark.

The Muskies stayed close and eventually clawed its way to a 49-48 lead with just under seven minutes to play, but the Cards quickly bounced back to grab a 53-49 advantage after a three-pointer from Shea McCoy.

The contest saw ties of 55-55 and 57-57 before Muskingum scored five straight points to hold a 62-57 lead with 2:20 showing on the game clock.

Otterbein fought down the stretch, but Muskingum connected on 5-of-6 free-throws in the final minute to preserve the victory.

Both teams shot a near identical 40% from the field, while Otterbein shot just 3-of-16 from three-point range.

The Cards won the rebounding battle 49-31, including 17 offensive, but Muskingum forced Otterbein into 22 turnovers.

Otterbein next hits the road Wednesday evening to play Heidelberg University. Game time from Tiffin is set for 7:30 p.m.
