Women's Basketball Rolls Past Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, OHIO – Senior forward Hannah Day led three players in double digits, as the Cardinals posted a 71-57 win against Muskingum University Saturday afternoon at the Muskingum Recreation Center.

With the win, Otterbein University improves to 11-3 overall and 5-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, the Muskies fall to 6-7 overall, 1-5 in conference play.

Day scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds (six offensive) in the win. In the Cards last three games, Day is averaging 13.7 points per game and 6.7 rebounds.

Senior guard Kristi Kotterman and junior forward Rachel Snedegar each finished with 12 points apiece. Snedegar added eight rebounds, while Kotterman dished out a game-high seven assists.

Muskingum opened the first five minutes on a 14-4 run. The Cardinals mounted a comeback over the next five minutes to tie the game at 17-17 on a three pointer by junior guard Allie Leopard. Otterbein closed out the first half with a 33-30 lead.

The Cards built upon their halftime advantage with a 17-7 run over the first 10 minutes of the second half to pull ahead 50-37.

The Muskies wouldn't go away, and pulled to within eight when sophomore guard Gabbi Davis hit a three-point shot to make the score 59-51 with 6:41 left in the tilt.

Otterbein never allowed Muskingum to get any closer, surrendering just six more points and crusing to the victory.

The Cardinals showed off their depth against the Muskies by finishing with a staggering 41-2 edge in bench points. The Cards also held a sizeable advantage in points in the paint, outscoring Muskingum 44-14.

Otterbein returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 11, when they travel to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
