TIFFIN, Ohio – The Cardinal women’s basketball squad bumped its winning-streak to six games Saturday afternoon, earning a 75-62 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory at Heidelberg University.
Otterbein University, now 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the league, return home to host John Carroll University Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
The Cardinals held an early seven-point lead before Heidelberg (5-10, 1-7 OAC) clawed its way back to trail 24-23midway through the opening half.
Otterbein used a 16-5 run over the next three minutes to open a 40-28 lead, but eventually settled for a 44-38 advantage entering the break.
Consecutive buckets from Tabatha Piper to open the second half quickly widened the Otterbein lead back to ten, and the Cards maintained the double-digit edge midway through the half after a pair of free throws from Piper.
The Berg cut the deficit to single digits at the 8:25 mark, but the Student Princes would get no closer as Otterbein was ultimately too much to handle.
Piper and senior Hannah Day each scored 14 points to lead five Cardinals in double figures, with each tying for a game-high seven rebounds.
Chelsea Cannon recorded 13 points and seven boards while Madi Miller and Allie Leopard chipped in 13 and 11, respectively.
Kathleen Phillips registered a game-high 20 points to pace the Heidelberg offensive attack. The Berg sank 10 three-pointers but were just 2 of 8 from the charity stripe.
Both teams shot a near-even percentage from the field, but the Cardinals dominated the glass to finish with a 46-26 rebounding edge, including 16 offensive.
