ADA, Ohio – The Cardinal women’s basketball team saw its 10-game winning streak snapped Wednesday evening, falling 62-45 on the road at league-leading and No. 6-ranked Ohio Northern University.
Otterbein University falls to 16-4 on the season and 10-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with the loss, while the win takes ONU to 19-1 overall and a perfect 13-0 in the league.
The Cardinals remain tied for second in the OAC standings with the University of Mount Union, 74-71 losers at Baldwin Wallace Wednesday evening. The Cards will host the Purple Raiders Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Otterbein held an 11-6 lead six minutes in, but the contest would see ties at 11, 15, 17, and 20.
Northern took a 29-24 lead into halftime, and opened the second half on an 8-0 run to open a 37-24 lead.
Ohio Northern built the lead to 52-32 but he Cards refused to go quietly, scoring nine in a row to claw within 52-41 with 7:19 to play.
Unfortunately, Otterbein was unable to right the ship, allowing the Polar Bears to quickly build the lead back to 19 before ultimately earning the 22-point win.
Sophomore Tabatha Piper tallied eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Cardinals, while classmate Madi Miller chipped in a team-high nine points.
Senior Hannah Day, the OAC’s third-leading scorer at 16.8 per game, was held scoreless (0 of 5 shooting) over 29 minutes of action.
Both teams struggled from the field against the other’s tough defense, but Otterbein committed twice as many turnovers at 16 to 8 and surrendered nine three-pointers.
Morgan Dumbaugh led the Polar Bears with 17 points while Cenzie Yoder added 10.
