Women's Hoops Wins 58-42 at Wilmington

Box Score

WILMINGTON, Ohio – Otterbein University women’s basketball picked up its fifth-consecutive victory Wednesday evening, winning 58-42 at Wilmington College to run its season mark to 11-3.

The Cardinals move to 5-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) with the win, and drop the second-place Quakers to 9-5 overall and 5-2 against league foes as a result.

The Cardinals used an early run to seize an 18-7 advantage, but the host Quakers battled back and closed to within 26-19 by halftime.

Back-to-back layups from sophomore Chelsea Reed bumped Otterbein’s lead back to ten to begin the second half, but Wilmington stayed close and trailed by six, 38-32, with the game clock moving under 10:00.

The Cardinal lead would be too much to overcome in the low-scoring affair, as Otterbein would do enough to secure its fifth-straight win.

Senior Hannah Day led all scorers yet again, tallying 16 points to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Tabatha Piper posted 10 points and eight boards while Reed finished with 10 points and three helpers.

Makenzie Wippel scored nine points to lead Wilmington, which only managed to make 12 of 54 field goals against the Otterbein defense.

The Cardinals finished .389 from the field, but were able to force the Quakers into committing 22 turnovers.

Otterbein stays on the road to finish out the week, traveling to Tiffin Saturday afternoon to play Heidelberg University. Starting time is slated for 3 p.m.
