WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University women’s basketball completed its season-sweep over rival Capital University Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 74-58 victory in the Rike Center.
The Cardinal defense was too much for the Crusaders yet again, helping Otterbein move to 18-5 on the season and 12-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).
The loss marks the fifth-straight for Capital (longest in program history), dropping the Purple and White to 13-10 overall and 8-8 against league foes.
Otterbein took an early 12-4 advantage before quickly bumping the margin to double digits, at 21-11, after a pair of Tabatha Piper free throws with 8:28 to play in the opening half.
The Cardinals stayed on the gas pedal, pushing the lead to 20 by halftime before widening the margin to 43-19 just minutes into the second half.
Otterbein remained in control throughout the remainder of the contest in gliding to victory.
Senior Rachel Snedegar turned in a double-double effort of 19 points and 10 boards to help lead Otterbein, while classmate Hannah Day compiled 18 points and a game-best 13 rebounds.
Allie Leopard contributed 15 points while backcourt mate Chelsea Reed had 14 to go along with six assists.
Cookie Geroski led the Crusaders with a 22-point effort, all coming in the second half.
Otterbein limited Capital to a 22 of 70 effort from the floor, helping offset its 23 turnovers. The Cards shot .474 from the field and made 16 of 21 at the free-throw line.
Otterbein hits the road to begin play next week, traveling to play John Carroll Wednesday evening. Tip off from University Heights is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Cards held off JCU, 63-61, earlier this season in Westerville.
