Corbett Scores 31 as Cardinals Pull Away from Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Otterbein Cardinals, behind a career-high 31 points from senior guard Mary Corbett, pulled away down the stretch Wednesday night to earn an 81-66 victory at Muskingum University in women's basketball action.

Muskingum (3-6, 1-3 OAC) scored the first ten points of the game, but Otterbein quickly settled in and eventually tied the contest, at 21-21, with 7:39 remaining in the first period. The matchup later went into halftime deadlocked at 37-37.

Both sides remained in a close battle as the second half progressed, seeing ties at 42, 44, 50 and 52 before Otterbein pulled away with a 23-6 run down the stretch. Muskingum would never recover as Otterbein picked up its second-straight OAC road win, improving to 4-6 overall and 2-2 within the league.

Corbett was impressive throughout, shooting 9-of-15 from the field and making four three-pointers for the highest-scoring game of her collegiate career. She was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in addition to four rebounds and four assists.

Junior Amariah Huck was solid down low, finishing with 19 points and tying for a team-high six rebounds. Senior point guard Chelsea Reed marked the third Cardinal in double figures, dropping 13 and also handing out a game-high nine assists.

Taylor Maurer and Shelbi VanMeter each scored 13 points to lead Muskingum while three others had nine.

Otterbein shot 50 percent from the field throughout, which included burying 9-of-16 from beyond the arc and 16 of 20 from the charity stripe.

The Cardinals will finish out the week at crosstown-rival Capital University Saturday afternoon, with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
