Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University got a game-high 22 points from junior Amariah Huck, but it wasn't enough as a comeback effort fell just short in a 67-60 loss to Baldwin Wallace University Saturday afternoon in the Rike Center.
The Cardinals, nearly overcoming a 15-point deficit with 12:09 remaining in regulation, falls to 2-5 overall on the season and 0-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with the result.
Both sides traded leads early on in the game, with Otterbein clinging to a 19-18 lead midway through the first half.
The Cardinals got into some foul trouble as the opening half progressed, allowing Baldwin Wallace (4-2, 1-1 OAC) to finish the period on a 19-4 run and take a 14-point halftime advantage. Â The Cardinals shot just 25 percent from the field in the first half.
Otterbein trimmed the deficit to eight points just past the midway point of the second half on a layup from Huck, and later clawed to within just four, 50-46, after an old-fashioned three-point play from Chelsea Reed with 7:17 remaining.
Freshman Abby Miduri brought Otterbein with a bucket, 55-53, with 4:09 to go after a three-pointer from the right wing, but BW answered with a three-point play of its own on the ensuing trip down the floor and ultimately held off the Cardinal rally.
Huck shot 7 of 14 from the field and 8 of 10 from the free-throw line, marking the only Otterbein player to score in double figures. Reed finished with nine and Miduri had eight.
Shari Mangas scored 12 to lead the Yellow Jackets while teammate Audrey Smolik chipped in 10.
Otterbein will have the middle of the week off for final exams before returning to action next Saturday at Mount Union. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
