Nationally-Ranked John Carroll Too Strong for Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University came up short in a conference home game Wednesday evening in women's basketball action, falling 83-64 to No. 21-ranked John Carroll University inside the Rike Center.

Otterbein, now 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), will finish out the week on the road with a 3 p.m. contest at Marietta College Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Streaks (12-1, 6-1 OAC) took control from the get-go, building an 18-8 advantage seven minutes into the game. Otterbein trimmed the lead back to seven on a few separate occasions before JCU eventually took a 43-29 cushion into the half.
John Carroll would ultimately get the lead to 20 less than six minutes into the second half en route to victory.

Senior Mary Corbett finished with a team-high 18 points on the Otterbein side, shooting 7 of 13 from the field and nailing four three-pointers.

Point guard Chelsea Reed marked the other Cardinal making it to double figures, scoring 11 and handing out a game-high eight assists. Now with 385 assists for her career, Reed moves into fourth on Otterbein's all-time list in the category by passing 1988 graduate Donna Peters.

Meghan Weber notched a game-high 26 points for John Carroll while Katlyn Spahar, the OAC's leading scorer, finished with 18 on 4-of-9 shooting and a 9-of-10 effort at the charity stripe. JCU held a 50-24 edge on points in the paint.

Otterbein only got to the free-throw line eight times in the game, making six, while the Blue Streaks went 19 of 29 for the contest.
