Box Score WILMINGTON, Ohio – Otterbein University women's basketball dropped a fourth-straight conference affair Wednesday evening on the road, watching host Wilmington College pull away down the stretch en route to a 71-59 defeat.
Both sides felt each other out early on, with Wilmington (10-6, 5-4 OAC) assuming a marginal 20-16 lead midway through the opening half. The Quakers used a quick 9-2 run to open an 11-point advantage in the latter part of the first frame, but the Cardinals managed to close the gap to just five entering halftime.
Wilmington tallied the first two buckets of the second period, but Otterbein (5-11, 2-7 OAC) stayed put and eventually tied the contest, 51-51, with 9:43 remaining in regulation. A layup from Chelsea Reed on the next possession gave Otterbein the lead, but the Quakers rallied with a 17-6 run down the stretch to earn the win.
Junior post Amariah Huck was solid again for Otterbein, leading all scorers for a second-straight contest with 20 points on a 10-of-18 effort from the floor. She also had a game-high six rebounds.
Two other Cardinals made it into double figures, with Mary Corbett notching 14 and Abby Miduri finishing with 12. Otterbein never made it to the free-throw line throughout the entire game, while Wilmington shot just eight.
Mary Moyer scored 16 points to lead the hosts, who finished with a 35-18 edge in bench scoring and shot 10 of 23 from three-point range. Both teams shot 50 percent for the game.
Otterbein will finish out the week Saturday afternoon, hosting the University of Mount Union in the Rike Center at 3 p.m.
