Muskingum (5-14, 3-9 OAC) opened a 14-6 lead early on, but the Cardinals settled in and embarked on an 18-5 run spanning the next seven minutes to seize a 24-19 advantage. The Muskies answered back with eight-straight points to regain control before eventually taking a small 39-36 cushion into the half.
Muskingum began the second half strong, starting the frame on a 13-2 spurt en route to a 14-point advantage. Otterbein (5-14, 2-10 OAC) wasn't ready to go anywhere just yet, trimming the deficit back down to only five, 54-49, as the game clock approached 8:00 to play.
The Muskies would regroup and go on to win, using a 15-7 run down the stretch to create some separation and close out the game.
Amariah Huck, 14 points, and Madi Miller, 13, helped pace the Cardinal offense throughout while Chelsea Reed handed out a game-best eight assists. The scoring output for Miller marks a season-high.
Six different Muskies scored in double figures, led by 13 from Jasmine Goings. Otterbein was a perfect 13 of 13 at the free-throw line but made just 3of-14 three-pointers and allowed Muskingum to finish at 54 percent from the field.
Otterbein will hit the road to start off next week's action, traveling to John Carroll University for a 7:30 p.m. matchup Wednesday evening. JCU, which entered the week ranked No. 19 in the country, took the first meeting earlier this season between the schools.
