Otterbein Wins at Heidelberg, Clinches Fifth-Seed in OAC Tournament

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 78-68 win at Heidelberg on Saturday inside Seiberling Gymnasium.

Otterbein (14-11 overall) finishes the season at 9-9 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play and earns the fifth-seed in next week's OAC Tournament. The Cardinals will host No.8-seed Heidelberg on Monday at 7:30 p.m. inside the Rike Center.

The Cardinals trailed, 14-11, after the first quarter before manufacturing a 13-4 scoring run to open the second quarter and take a 24-18 lead. Freshman guard Dani Kissel totaled nine points in the quarter, connecting on a trio of three-pointers.

A made three-pointer by sophomore guard Abby Miduri with less than a minute until halftime gave the Cards their largest-lead of the half at 38-29, proving to be the score at the break. Kissel led all scorers at the break with 11 points.

Otterbein scored the first two baskets of the third period, leading by as many as 13 points throughout the frame, before Heidelberg cut its deficit to 10 points heading into the fourth quarter.

A jumper by Miduri at the 6:32 mark of the fourth period gave the Cards their largest-lead of the game at 67-50, as the Berg came no closer than eight points over the final six minutes of play.

The Cardinals finished the game with a balanced scoring effort as five players posted double figures in scoring. Kissel led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including an impressive 4-of-6 mark from behind the arc.

Miduri dished out a game-high five assists and continued her solid scoring-streak by totaling 16 points on an efficient 5-of-9 mark from the field and 4-of-6 line from the charity stripe. Sophomore forward Kiersten Taylor posted 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, making it the second time in the last three games with a double-double.

Huck finished with 10 points and seven rebounds in the final regular season game of her career, while freshman guard Ali Cartnal chipped in 10 points and three assists. Otterbein finished the game with a 45.2 percent mark from the field while holding the Berg to 39.1 percent shooting.
