Cards Take Three of Four at Wabash Duals, Now 12-3 Overall

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Otterbein University wrestling team added three more wins to its resume Saturday, walking away from the Wabash College 'Max Servies' Duals with a 3-1 record.

The Cardinals, improving to 12-3 on the season with the recent triumphs, will quickly regroup and prepare to host No. 9-ranked Baldwin Wallace University come Tuesday night in the Rike Center. The Yellow Jackets were picked as the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason favorite.

Otterbein opened the day with a 28-12 victory over Manchester University, getting pins from Jake Vaughan and Corbin Bunsold (184 lbs.) to go along with a major decision from 197-pounder Drew Kasper. Vaughan, who has moved up to test the waters at 149 pounds, won his match in come-from-behind fashion.

The Cardinals faced a challenging task in their second dual against host Wabash, ranked No. 15 in the most recent NWCA national rankings after reaching as high as fourth earlier this season. Otterbein opened the match with a bang behind a first-period pin from Jackson Lakso at 125 pounds, but the Little Giants countered to capture the next-six matches and win 45-12.

Bunsold downed his opponent in just 81 seconds before Wabash finished strong with falls at 197 and heavyweight, one of which being three-time national champion Riley Lefever, who has now transitioned up a weight class after spending the past three seasons compiling a 119-3 career record at 184 pounds.

Otterbein got back into the win column by defeating Thomas More College, 39-15, for its second win over the Saints this winter. Lakso, Tyler Norris (141 lbs.), Vaughan and Kasper all tallied pins while Donny Didion escaped with a 3-2 decision at 165 pounds.

The day concluded with a 41-6 victory over Calumet College as the Cardinals took nine-straight matches, including four forfeits. Bunsold cemented a perfect 4-0 day with his third pin, 157-pounder Willy Plaisir earned a decision to finish 3-1 on the trip and Drew Kasper posted a technical fall to also depart with a 3-1 record.

Lakso joined Bunsold with a 4-0 record, running his season record to 13-2 in the process.
