MATCH RESULTS
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team took two of three matches Sunday afternoon at the John Carroll Duals, running its record to 3-1 on the young season.
The Cardinals opened the day with a 45-19 win over Penn State-Behrend, and then followed by absorbing a narrow 23-18 loss against Lycoming College. The team then regrouped to finish its day strong, taking down Alfred State by a score of 37-11.
Otterbein received perfect outings from a quarter of wrestlers, with sophomores
Jackson Lakso (125),
Santino DiSabato (133),
Willy Plaisir (165) and
Drew Kasper (197) all going 3-0 in their respective weight classes.
Lakso launched the day against PSU-behrend with a 20-5 technical fall, and the lineup followed with first-round pins from DiSabato,
Jake Vaughan (149),
Joey Tromba (174) and heavyweight
Nate Temple (295). Plaisir added a third-round pin while Kasper notched a major decision.
Lakso and DiSabato got the action started against Lycoming with victories, but the Cards were forcued to surrender a critical forfeit at 141 pounds. Decisions from Plaisir and
Donny Didion (184) midway through, followed by another major from Kasper, put Otterbein ahead 18-17 leading into the final showdown. Unfortunately, Temple was caught and pinned by Lycoming's Garrett Wesneski, who currently sits sixth in the latest national d3wrestle.com individual rankings.
Otterbein quickly regrouped to topple Alfred State, securing eight of the 10 matches to culminate the afternoon on a high note. Â Temple responded with a nice pin, Plaisir recorded a technical fall and freshman
Tamagne Shiferaw contributed a major decision.
The Cards will be back on the mat after Thanksgiving, hosting Mount Union to begin Ohio Athletic Conference dual action on Tuesday, Nov. 28 inside the Rike Center. Start time is slated for 7:30 p.m. Â
