NEW PHILADEPHIA, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team picked up a pair of non-conference dual victories Saturday afternoon, prevailing with head-to-head wins over Akron and then host Kent State Tuscarawas.

The Cardinals opened with a 35-9 triumph against the Zips, and then closed out the day with a 33-15 outcome over KSU-Tuscarawas. Otterbein now holds a 6-2 record this season.

Otterbein got 2-0 days from seven different wrestlers as Jackson Lakso (133), Santino DiSabato (141), Jake Vaughan (149), Willy Plaisir (165), Bryce Hessler (174), Drew Kasper (197) and Alex Scotton (285) each won both of their matches. Lakso and DiSabato were competing up a weight class.

The Cards built a 27-0 lead against the Zips before dropping its only match at 184 pounds, but the 11th-ranked Kasper responded with a first-round pin (1:52) over Akron's Johnny Moreno.

Otterbein forfeited the initial weight class against KSU-Tuscarawas but quickly settled in with a second-round pin from Lakso, followed by a decision from DiSabato and a 59-second pin from Vaughan. Plaisir edged out a narrow 8-7 decision before Hessler notched a fall at 2:44, Kasper secured an 11-4 victory and Scotton receiving his second forfeit.

Otterbein will have one more outing before its month-long holiday break, hosting North Central (Ill.) in the Rike Center this coming Friday at 4 p.m. NC is 2-0 in duals, including a victory against No. 12-ranked Augustana last month.
