BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein women's basketball team finished on the short end of an 87-63 loss at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action inside Ursprung Gymanisum.
The Cardinals (7-8 overall) move to 3-5 in league play with the loss to the Yellow Jackets, which currently sit in third-place in the conference standings. Otterbein will resume its two-game road stint on Wednesday night with a trip to Wilmington for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
Baldwin Wallace (9-6 overall, 5-3 OAC) went back and forth with the Cardinals in the scoring column over the first seven minutes of play before turning a 9-8 advantage into an eight-point lead thanks to a 7-0 scoring run.
Otterbein battled back within five at the end of the initial frame before back-to-back layups by forward
Kiersten Taylor moved the Cards within a single point just under the eight-minute mark. BW guard Hannah Fecht then connected on 11-straight points, including a trio of shots from beyond the arc, to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 29-20.
The Cardinals did not back down though, as guard
Ali Cartnal converted all three foul shots the next possession to inch the team back within two possessions. Otterbein managed to close out the half on an 8-6 run to keep the deficit at 35-31, with Taylor leading the Cards with 12 points and five rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets gained a double-digit advantage around the midway point of the third period, before moving into the final frame with a 63-46 lead. BW led by as many as 25 points over the final 10 minutes, proving to be its largest lead of the afternoon.
Leading all scorers was Taylor with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting to pair with six rebounds, pushing her over the 500-rebound mark for her career as she now stands at 503 total. Guard
Jacy Jones followed with a career-best 12 points, including two three-pointers, off the bench.
Fecht paced BW with 19 points along with six boards, as the Yellow Jackets finished the contest shooting 52.5 percent from the field with 17 points off turnovers.
