WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's basketball team picked up a 69-54 win over rival Capital on Saturday afternoon inside the Rike Center to sweep the regular-season series in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.

Otterbein (9-8 overall) improves its record in league play to .500 overall, now at 5-5, with just eight games remaining on the regular-season schedule. The Cards will host nationally-ranked Marietta next Wednesday night in one of its final four home regular-season games of the year. Tip-off on Reynolds Court is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Cardinals got off to a fast start from the field to build a 15-7 lead through one quarter, thanks in part to senior Kiersten Taylor and sophomore Abbie Scholz accounting for the team's first six points to start the game.

Junior Jacy Jones opened the second quarter scoring effort for the Cards with five quick points, connecting on a three-pointer to put Otterbein up 18-9 just over 30 seconds into the frame before finishing a layup in the paint a minute later.

A 7-0 scoring run followed as Otterbein claimed a 27-12 advantage around the five-minute mark, before keeping pace to boost its lead to 19 points heading into halftime. Junior Ali Cartnal led the Cards at the break with 12 points.

Capital (8-9 overall, 4-6 OAC) managed to cut into its deficit late in the third period, pulling within 12 points at 44-32 with 2:34 remaining. Otterbein regained its stellar advantage to end the half, going ahead by 18 after scoring six of the frame's final eight points.

The Cardinals went ahead by as many as 23 points in the final quarter, their largest lead of the afternoon, before Otterbein wrapped up its first sweep of Capital since the 2012-13 season.

Cartnal paced all scorers with 15 points, including a pair of three-pointers, dishing out a game-best four assists. Taylor followed with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Scholz notched her second-straight double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.

Otterbein finished the game shooting 48 percent while Capital, which committed 17 turnovers, concluded the contest at 40 percent from the field.
