TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon against Heidelberg. The Cardinals now improve to 6-5 overall, 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while Heidelberg drops to 5-6-1, 2-2-1 in the OAC.
The match would consist of a defensive battle between the two squads. Freshman
Andrew McIlvoy made his first collegiate start earning the shutout victory against the Student Princes.
Erick Juarez-Manning registered the lone goal of the afternoon in the 44rd minute off a feed from
Eric Stucky. Juarez-Manning now leads the Cardinals with eight points on the season.
At the break, Otterbein attempted eight shots and only allowed one shot by Heidelberg in the first 45 minutes. Otterbein continued its strong pressure on defense in the second half, by not allowing the Student Princes to find the back of the net. Heidelberg would find more chances, but the Cardinals did a stout job by keeping the Student Princes off the scoreboard.
McIlvoy would earn his first career victory, as he recorded three saves. This marks the second time Otterbein has recorded a shutout this season, as they would not allow a goal against Denison on Sept. 15.
The Cardinals will travel to Wilmington and battle against the Fightin' Quakers Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
