WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team concluded its season with a tough, 1-0, loss in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament quarterfinal match against Ohio Northern Tuesday night inside Memorial Stadium.

Six days ago, Otterbein hosted Ohio Northern and defeated the Polar Bears 1-0 off a goal by Pau Piang. The match would help determine the seeding for the OAC Tournament, as ONU would come in as the No. 5 seed and the Cardinals as the No. 4 seed.

Ohio Northern (12-7-1 overall, 4-5 in the OAC) capitalized early in the 15th minute, as Anthony DeNoi crossed the ball through a crowded box and found the foot of Levi King. The midfielder made one touch on the ball and finished in the lower-left corner of the net.

The Polar Bears held a 9-2 edge in total shots, while goalkeeper Collin Hoffmann made four saves in the first 45 minutes. In the second half, Otterbein had nearly two opportunities to score but goalkeeper John Lombardo thwarted both chances.

The first opportunity came in the 75th minute as Toby Varland played a free kick to Juan Rivas. The senior midfielder made a heading effort at net, but Lombardo made the save.

Eric Stucky offered the final Otterbein chance as he tried to curve a shot past Lombardo in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper made a diving effort to keep the ball in play.

The clock buzzed, as the Polar Bears emerged victorious. Ohio Northern edged Otterbein attempting 18-14 shots, while Hoffmann finished the night with nine saves.

Ohio Northern will play again on Thursday night facing off against either Capital or John Carroll. The Cardinals season will come to an end, finishing the year with an overall record of 8-8 and a 5-4 mark in the OAC.
