Freshmen Play Vital Role in 4-1 Victory Against Baldwin Wallace

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team played host to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foe Baldwin Wallace Saturday night inside of Memorial Stadium, defeating the Yellow Jackets 4-1. The Cardinals have now won back-to-back matches and currently sit at 5-4 overall, 2-1 OAC, while Baldwin Wallace falls to 6-6-1, 1-2 OAC.

Baldwin Wallace struck first in the 23rd minute, as reigning OAC Forward of the Year Danny Ruple received a through ball and beat goalkeeper Collin Hoffmann for his 10th goal of the year.

Otterbein would respond in a timely fashion three minutes later, as Pau Piang intercepted a pass from a BW defender and showed off some fancy footwork. Piang beat the same defender and finished the scoring play, evening the scoreboard at 1-1.

Kamal Mohammed would give the Cardinals a 2-1 advantage right before the half, scoring in the 41st minute as he beat goalkeeper Patrick Mehal in the lower left part of the goal. At the half, Otterbein owned a 9-6 lead in the shot category with four being on target. Piang, Mohammed, and Erick Juarez-Manning all attempted two shots at the break.

Mohammaed added another goal in the 60th minute, as this time the freshman beat a Yellow Jacket defender and placed the ball in the top-right shelf of the goal for a 3-1 Cardinal lead.

Another freshman would soon make an impact, this time as Ty Borton answered the bell by registering his first collegiate goal in the 69th minute of action. He beat a BW defender and went bar in for the finish.

The Cardinals, who owned a 21-14 edge in total shots, will next host John Carroll Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
