BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team matched a season-high seven goals en route to a 7-1 victory over Baldwin Wallace Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals earn their seventh straight victory and improve to 9-2, 3-0 OAC, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 6-5-1, 0-3 OAC.
The first 30 minutes of action was extremely competitive between the squads, however Otterbein flipped the switch in the 33rd minute scoring its first goal of the contest and running away with the game.
Delaney Earl scored her first of three goals, off a perfect find from
Haleigh Guerra, as she beat goalkeeper Sophie Weidner.
One minute later,
Bella Shivley joined in on the scoring action as Earl found Shivley unmarked at the top of the box and the keeper had no opportunity to stop the strong strike.
Myiah Kelley recorded her fourth goal of the season in the 38th minute, when Earl crossed the ball to Kelley as she practically walked the ball into the net. The next Cardinal goal came from
Emerson Woerner, as a ball was played down the field and Weidner left the BW goalkeepers box, Woerner to chip the ball over the keeper and watched as the ball trickled into the net. At the half the Cardinals owned a 4-0 advantage and attempted nine shots compared to three by the Yellow Jackets.
The second half would follow the same script as the first with the Cardinals scoring in bunches. The next Otterbein goal came in the 57th minute as Earl and Shivley would flip-flop roles, this time Shivley found Earl open in the box for her second goal. The freshman Earl would tally her first career hat-trick in the 67th minute, recording her eighth point of the afternoon.
The seventh and final goal came in the 72nd minute, when
Megan Losey took a corner kick for the Tan and Cardinal finding
Hayley Hotchkiss to beat the new goalkeeper Lyndsey Valentine. The Otterbein defense allowed its first goal in 615 minutes of action when Rachel Bender of BW found the back of the net in the 75th minute
Despite the lopsided score, Otterbein attempted five more shots (17-12) and four extra corner kicks (11-7). The Cardinals will stay on the road traveling to University Heights Wednesday night for a battle with John Carroll at 7 p.m.
