Wrestling Opens Season at Competitive Kent State Duals

FULL RESULTS

KENT, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team launched its 2018-19 season Friday night with a trio of outings at the Kent State University Duals, hosted inside the KSU Field House and welcoming competition from multiple divisions.

The Cardinals dropped duals against a pair of nationally-ranked Division II opponents in No. 13 Ashland (33-11) and No. 14-ranked Lake Erie (34-14). Otterbein gathered a victory against Mercyhurst North East by a final score of 40-9.

Junior tri-captains Jackson Lakso (125), Corbin Bunsold (197) and Drew Kasper (285 heavyweight) opened their seasons with perfect 3-0 starts.

Lakso, ranked 12th in the country to begin this season, tallied a fall in getting his season off to a nice start while Bunsold, who missed all of last year with an injury, made a strong return in his new weight class. He also registered a fall.

Kasper, a national qualifier last winter as a sophomore at 197, dominated the competition in his heavyweight debut with a pair of technical falls.

Sophomore Michael Duzzny (157) picked up a win as did newcomers Ryan Jakubiak (133), Zach Altman (157), Joey Bradbery (165) and Jarrod Setliff (184). More details and full box scores from each dual match will be posted as soon as they become available.

Otterbein will get right back to action this coming Sunday at the Case Western Reserve Invitational, scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
