ADA, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team turned in a handful of nice performances Saturday at the Ohio Northern Invitational, with 197-pounder
Corbin Bunsold remaining undefeated en route to an individual title. The Cards took eighth place as a team despite competing without a few starters, registering 80.5 points collectively
Bunsold, a junior ranked No. 22 nationally, went 4-0 on the day with four first-round pins and stays perfect on the season by improving to 16-0. He pinned teammate
Luke Hess in the final.
Hess delivered another nice tournament showing, facing against Bunsold in the title match yet again after the duo recently squared off in Virginia as well at the Star City Open. Hess went 3-1 on the day and is now a solid 8-4 this year.
Otterbein's other runner-up finish came from No. 10-ranked
Jackson Lakso at 125 pounds. He cruised his way into the championship showdown, taking an early lead over Muskingum's Jordan Burkholder before unfortunately dropping an 8-6 decision. It was the first loss of this season for Lakso, who still stands an impressive 17-1.
Jarrod Setliff (184) and
Braden Neuberger (197) both delivered fifth-place finishes while heavyweight
Nate Temple finished his division in sixth. The Cardinal lineup was rounded out by a pair of seventh-place results, coming by way of
Donny Didion at 184 and Luke Shivley at 285.
The Cardinals competed without 141-pounder
Santino DiSabato and undefeated heavyweight
Drew Kasper, who both sat out as precautions to recover from slight illnesses.
Otterbein will have the middle of this coming week off for final exams before getting back to action next Saturday, traveling to New Philadelphia for a tri-match with Kent State Tuscarawas and Akron.
