WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's basketball team won a thriller inside the Rike Center Tuesday night in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) tournament play against Baldwin Wallace, 74-64.

The Cards started slow while Baldwin Wallace converted a few quick buckets out of the gate. Once Otterbein found its rhythm, the game picked up to back and forth play between both teams. Junior Ali Cartnal made a difficult layup with 7.2 seconds left that resulted in an old-fashioned three-point play.

The Yellow Jackets answered back quickly with a layup from Riley Schill at the buzzer, giving Baldwin Wallace a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter consisted of sluggish play from both teams and saw just seven combined made shots. BW held its largest lead of the night, 28-18, before settling for a 32-26 advantage heading into intermission. Kara Marshall had a 10-point half for the Yellow Jackets, who were on top despite committing 14 turnovers which resulted in seven steals for Otterbein.

Both teams came out of the break ready to go as they shared a few baskets to start the quarter. Otterbein senior Abby Miduri found her way open to drain a three-pointer at the 7:14 mark, cutting the deficit to only three.

Even play continued from there until 1:27 left in the third, where Ali Cartnal hit two free throws to give the Cards their first lead of the game. Another layup by Cartnal gave Otterbein a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals opened up the fourth quarter with an 11-5 run to take momentum of the game. With 4:58 left in the game, senior Kiersten Taylor made a layup to get her 1,000th point of her career. From there, Otterbein took complete control while not seeing its lead go below seven.

The Cardinals were led by Cartnal with 31 points while also receiving 11 from Taylor. Sophomore Abbie Scholz led the Cards with a game-high nine rebounds.

Baldwin Wallace was led by Kara Marshall who gave the Yellow Jackets a career-high 21 points while also receiving eight rebounds from Sydney Diedrich.

Otterbein will be playing in the semi-final game against Ohio Northern Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in Ada.
