GAMBIER, Ohio – The Cardinal volleyball team made it eight wins in a row Thursday evening as the end of a month-long road trip nears an end, working past host Kenyon College in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-14.
Otterbein walks away from Tomsich Arena a healthy 12-4 on the year, and now turns its attention to the beginning of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) schedule this weekend. The Cards play at Mount Union Saturday afternoon for a start time at 1 p.m.
The first set was all Otterbein behind the right arms of senior
Hadley Sterett and sophomore
Emily Shuk, who combined for nine kills in a lopsided opening frame. The Cards used a 7-0 run early on to create separation and ease to the early lead.
Kenyon (11-5) threw its best punch in the second set, trailing 18-13 down the stretch before clawing back to make the score 23-22. Otterbein promptly responded with back-to-back kills from Sterett and middle
Alana King-Mendenhall.
That momentum remained on Otterbein's side throughout a comfortable third set, where the Cards used an 8-1 spurt to break open an 11-9 score and never look back. Sterett (20-2-34) and King-Mendehall (10-2-16) both hit over .500 on the night while setter
Andrea Miller secured another double-double with 43 assists and 10 digs.
Libero
Ashlyn Leon paced the defense with 18 digs and the Cards hit a solid .375 collectively, while also registering seven service aces.
Kenyon received 13 kills from Delaney Swanson, 31 assists from Meghan Cason and hit .271 as a team. The Ladies, who opened the season with a 9-1 record, will look to regroup with more than a week off before the start of NCAC play against Oberlin.
