ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team falls 1-0 against nationally-ranked Mount Union Saturday afternoon in Alliance.
The reigning Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) champions were unable to come away with a victory against No. 24 Mount Union. The Cardinals now drop to 3-4, 0-1 OAC on the year, while Mount Union stays perfect at 8-0, 1-0 OAC.
The Purple Raiders came into the match not allowing a single goal on the season as the trend continued by shutting out the Tan and Cardinal. Otterbein attempted 12 shots but unfortunately could not find the back of the net.
In the first half, it would be a back and forth affair with the Cardinals finding chances but unable to score. Mount Union scored the lone goal in the 42nd minute with time ticking down in the first period, Josh Lewis was able to put one past goalkeeper
Collin Hoffmann.
At the intermission the Cardinals trailed 1-0, Mount Union held a 9-6 edge in the shot category while attempting three corner kicks as Otterbein had one corner.
Otterbein was able to control possession in the second period but the Purple Raider defense held strong stopping the Cardinals. Otterbein had six shots in the final 45 minutes of action compared to one by Mount Union.
The Cardinals will continue OAC play next Wednesday traveling to Marietta to battle with the Pioneers at 7 p.m.
