Cardinals Drop Road Match Against Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Otterbein women's soccer team has now dropped back-to-back road matches falling to Centre College 4-1. Emily Ganz scored the lone Cardinal goal in the contest.

Following the defeat Saturday afternoon Otterbein's record is now 2-2 on the year. The Cardinals battled with the Colonels for 90 minutes putting pressure on the host multiple times, but unable to come away with the victory.

Centre College scored the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute, as Keeghan Francis was able to find the back of the net on an assist from Brooke Smithson. Otterbein was able to respond right before the intermission as Ganz buried a penalty kick tying the game at 1-1.

At the break, the Tan and Cardinal held a 9-6 advantage in the shot column four of Otterbein's shots were on target. The second half would be all Colonels outscoring Otterbein 3-0 in the final 45 minutes of action. Centre College started the second period off on the right foot connecting on a goal seven minutes in.

In the 72nd minute Centre was able to build a two-goal advantage over Otterbein. Erin Gordon stopped a strong strike from Sarah Sirkin in the 71st minute, but one minute later Sirkin was able to put it past Gordon giving Centre a 3-1 advantage.

Centre added one final goal in the 89th minute on a penalty kick, which would be enough for the host school, starting the year off 3-0. Centre owned a 17-10 edge in the shot category, Gordon was able to make five saves in the contest. Otterbein will have its season opener next Wednesday against Ohio Wesleyan start time is set for 7 p.m.
