Second Half Runs Hurt Cardinals in Alliance

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's basketball team dropped its fourth consecutive game, as Mount Union defeated the Cardinals 95-68 Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals now fall to 4-11 overall and 1-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) while the Purple Raiders, who came into the contest second in the league and were receiving votes in the latest top-25 poll, improve to 13-2 on the year and 7-1 in the conference.

Otterbein started the game on an 8-0 run as Kobe Long-Weber, Jay Joseph and Austin Springer all contributed a basket. The Purple Raiders would respond shortly after by making back-to-back three pointers.

Mount Union built its largest lead of the half at seven points on multiple occasions, but the Cardinals had an answer each time to cut the lead down.

The Cardinals trailed by five heading into the intermission, as Joseph went a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor for a game-high 13 points. Long-Weber added nine points after shooting a clean 3 of 3 from behind the arc.

Mount Union put together a 10-0 run midway through the second stanza to push its lead to 19, as Eddie Anders ended the Purple Raiders run by connecting on a three pointer with 8:47 remaining. Shortly after the Anders three pointer Mount Union went on a 12-2 run and increased its lead to 84-58.

The Cardinals made 50 percent of their three pointers, as Joseph and Long-Weber combined for 8 of 11 from behind the arc. Joseph also led all scorers with a game-high 18 points, as Long-Weber, Maurice Beavers and Justin Carter all finished in double figures.

Otterbein will return to the Rike Center to face Ohio Northern Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
