WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Heidelberg bested Otterbein in the initial meeting back on Dec. 8 by a score of 87-76, however Otterbein found multiple scoring options and defeated Heidelberg 92-88 Friday night inside the Rike Center.

Otterbein improves to 6-11 on the year and 3-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while the Student Princes drop to 6-11 on the year and 4-6 in the league.

The Cardinals went on 10-0 run midway through the first half, as Kobe Long-Weber connected on back-to-back three pointers. Heidelberg would respond immediately after the Otterbein run by scoring 10 consecutive points and held a 35-31 advantage.

After grabbing a defensive rebound with five second left in the half, Justin Carter split a pair of Heidelberg defender's and banked a half-court shot before the buzzer to give Otterbein a 43-42 lead at the intermission.

The Cardinals shot 50 percent from the floor and 46 percent from behind the arc, as Carter led the squad with 11 points.

Early in the second half, sophomore Jay Joseph buried a pair of three pointers to give Otterbein a 56-47 edge and forced a Student Princes timeout.

Otterbein kept the pressure on Heidelberg by maintaining a two-possession lead for nearly 12 minutes of action. Tayte Lentz of Heidelberg connected on a transition three pointer to cut the deficit to four with 4:39 left.

Maurice Beavers and Jay Joseph combined for the final nine points of the game to seal the deal and give the Cardinals their second consecutive conference victory.

The Cardinals made 16 three pointers on 26 attempts, compared to the Student Princes who made 13 of 35. Austin Springer led the charge with a career-high 22 points on an efficient 7 of 12 shooting.

Joseph tallied 19 points and did a stout job of slowing down Myron Prewitt, who currently ranks second in the OAC averaging 20.1 points per game, as Beavers and Carter combined for 33 points.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Marietta for a match with the top-seeded Pioneers, the game is set to start at 7 p.m.
