WESTERVILLE, Ohio- Despite two defensive scores Otterbein saw Wilmington steal victory in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon inside of Memorial Stadium. The Quakers scored and converted a two point attempt in the waning seconds to knock-off the Cards on senior day, 28-27.
Otterbein (2-8, 2-7) took the lead over the Quakers (3-7, 3-6), 27-20 with only four minutes remaining, Quaker QB Kyle Barrett sailed a pass over the head of his wide outs and into the hands of
Blake Montiel for a 67-yard pick-six. The Cardinals attempted a two-point conversion to attempt to end the game, but
Matt Webb was wrapped up in the backfield before he could go anywhere.
Otterbein was forced to then kick-off from their own 20-yard line following a 15-yard personal foul penalty on the interception return. Luke Richardson took the short kick and returned it to the Otterbein 49, setting the Quakers up with a short field and 1:26 of game clock to work with.
The ensuing drive will live on in the memories of both teams long into the off-season. The first snap saw Barrett sacked for a loss of one by
Nick Cipriano and
David Kukucka, the next play just a gain of two on an out route, setting up and third and eight, and a chance for the Cards to seal the game. Barret dropped back to pass on third down and found one of his favorite targets on the afternoon in Ace Taylor who was able to gain 12-yards and move the chains.
Two plays later Barrett located his other favorite target, Itika Wynn Jr., who made an acrobatic one handed snag down the Wilmington sideline and landed inside the five yard line with 17 seconds remaining. Two seconds late the pair connected again on a 4-yard completion bring the Quakers within one at 26-27.
Wilmington took its final timeout to discuss what they would do, they decided to go for the win on a two-point attempt. Barrett took the snap and rolled right, Wynn Jr. snuck into the end zone behind the defense and the pair connected once again to go up 28-27 with just 15 seconds remaining.
Otterbein, with just 15 seconds to work with was unable to get a shot to the end zone, QB
Logan Pharmer was sacked on the season's final play.
Pharmer completed 9 of 21 passes for 148-yards with 1 TD and 1 INT on the afternoon.
Matt Webb steadied the running game, toting the rock 17 times for 122-yards.
Bryce Lowry scored the only other Cardinal TD on offense, breaking off a 34-yard run in the first quarter.

Ryan Tuchow joined Montiel with a 24-yard INT return, while adding 12 tackles. Greg Nodler recorded 14 tackles on the afternoon to lead the way, including 1.5 for a loss.
