TIFFIN, Ohio- The Otterbein women's basketball team took down Heidelberg in game one of Saturday's doubleheader between men's and women's hoops. The Cardinals, (6-1, 2-0) jumped all over the hosts, (3-4, 0-2) to lead 90 percent of the game, culminating in a 63-53 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Otterbein got off to a hot start leading by six, 17-11 at the end of the first quarter.
- The second quarter was more competitive, with the Cardinals only outscoring Heidelberg 12-11.
- Abbie Scholz led all scorers at the break with 10, also adding 3 steals to give Otterbein the 29-22 halftime lead.
- Heidelberg made key halftime adjustments and played the Cardinals close in the remaining two quarters.
- The hosts were only outscored by three points over two periods, but the Cardinal lead was too much to overcome.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Otterbein has now defeated Heidelberg for a fifth straight time.
- The Cardinals record for most consecutive wins in the series is eight, 2010-2014.
- Scholz finished with a game-high 18 points, while collecting seven rebounds and dishing out four assists.
- Hailey Bauer scored 14 of her own, while Kathleen DeCarlo and Bryn Mangold each added 10 points to give the Cards four double-digit scorers.
- The Cards held the lead for a massive amount of time, playing from ahead for all but a few minutes of game time throughout the day.
