Otterbein Splits Season Series With Yellow Jackets


BEREA, Ohio - The Otterbein women's basketball team dropped its final regular-season game Saturday afternoon against Baldwin Wallace, as the Cardinals had four players record over 10 points. 

Otterbein falls to 15-10 overall and 11-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while BW improves to 19-6 on the year and 13-5 in the league. 

Baldwin Wallace secures the No. 2 seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament and will host Ohio Northern, as the Cardinals will be the fifth seed and travel to Bexley to take on Capital. 

Otterbein split its season series against the Crusaders as Dani Kissel set a program record of 44 points in the first meeting. In the second matchup, Ali Cartnal scored a career-high 38 points. 

The Yellow Jackets started the game by scoring the first 11 points before Cartnal made a three pointer at the 4:41 mark in the first period. 

With 5:38 remaining in the second quarter BW held its largest lead of the afternoon at 18 points. The Cardinals rattled off 14 of the next 16 points to make the score 38-34 at the break. Delaney Cutteridge led the team with nine points at the intermission on 4 of 6 shooting from the floor. 

The Cardinals took their first lead of the game with 7:21 left in the game, as Angelia Jackson connected on a three pointer to make the score 57-55. 

Cutteridge made the final Otterbein basket with 3:22 remaining as the Cardinals led 65-60. The Yellow Jackets would score five unanswered points to tie the game at 65. 

With 57 seconds remaining Lilly Edwards of Baldwin Wallace connected on a layup to give the Yellow Jackets a 67-65 edge. 

Ali Cartnal and Dani Kissel were both unable to make their shot attempts on the ensuing possession, as BW made five of its final six free throws to secure the victory.
