WESTERVILLE, Ohio – For the first time all season, the Otterbein men's lacrosse was able to take its turf inside the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium. The squad did not disappoint the home crowd, grabbing early momentum and never letting up en route to a 14-5 victory against Oberlin College.
HOW IT WENT DOWN:
- Otterbein scored twice in the opening minutes behind goals from Judston Huston (14:18) and Jake Grundey (14:10) just eight seconds apart. The latter came after Jason McDonald captured a faceoff and darted in to find his teammate.
- The Yeomen (2-2) responded with a pair of goals to tie the game but it would be mostly Otterbein until halftime, as the Cards carried an 8-4 margin into the locker room.
- Oberlin only trailed 9-5 midway through the third quarter before the hosts took control for good, receiving a goal from Seal just a minute later and finishing the night on a 5-0 run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Otterbein kept momentum heading into halftime after killing a pair of penalties late in the first half, and then responded when Joe Sanfillipo found Robby Fields for a goal 1:18 before the horn.
- Seal had a highlight-reel play of his own in the second quarter, roping in a behind-the-back shot from the left side that erupted Cardinal fans in the bleachers.
- Senior defenseman Adam Grumman caused four turnovers to become the program's new all-time leader with 77.
- The Otterbein defense performed admirably again by holding yet another opponent in single digits. Oberlin went 0 for 6 on extra-man opportunities as Adam Grumman, Jordan Tobler and Justin McKee all caused multiple turnovers.
- Another well-balanced attack saw nine different players score, headlined by a hat trick from Grundey.
- Sophomore goalie Zachary Groene was solid again in the cage, stopping 12 shots for his third game this year in double figures.
