GAMBIER, Ohio- In its second straight road contest, the 15th-ranked Otterbein women's soccer team was dealt a 5-4 loss despite outmatching Kenyon in multiple statistical categories. With the result the Cardinals will drop to 4-1 on the season, while Lords improves to 2-3.
The Cards were forced to climb out of an early hole when Kenyon's Fallon Raviol shot past goalie
Erin Gordon just 33 seconds into the match. Raviol would extend the lead by adding another goal in the 22nd minute. Just three minutes later the Lords struck again with a goal from Olivia Dion to take a 3-0 lead into the half.
Kenyon took just 26 seconds off the second half clock before Olivia Carriero beat Gordon once again, and the Lords took a commanding 4-0 lead. The Cards finally got on the board in the 49th minute when
Bella Shivley beat Kenyon goalie Erika Freiberg, capitalizing on a penalty shot.
Emily Ganz helped to cut the Lords lead in half when she scored in the 55th minute once again successfully converting a penalty shot.
Kenyon answered in the 68th minute to take a 5-2 advantage. The Cards continued to battle back, as Ganz scored her second goal of the match in the 70th minute, followed by Shivley's second in the 85th. The Cards were unable to find the equalizing goal in the final minutes as their comeback effort fell short.
Gordon played the full 90 in net for the Cards making two saves, while Kenyon's Freiberg went the distance with four saves. The Cardinals out shot Kenyon 23-9, with both teams putting eight shots on target. Ganz and Shivley led the way for the Cardinals offense scoring a pair of goals each.
The Cardinals will resume action on Thursday Sept. 19
th when they welcome Adrian to Memorial Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
