HANOVER, Ind. – The Otterbein men's soccer team dropped a non-conference road game Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 3-1 on the campus of Hanover College.
The Cardinals, now 2-2 on the season, will return home and regroup with the middle of next week off before ultimately hosting Transylvania Saturday night inside Memorial Stadium. That first kick is slated for 7 p.m.
Hanover (3-1) opened the scoring with a goal in the 18th minute, getting a nice cross and shot from Luke Eppler at the top of the box. That score remained by intermission but the Panthers doubled up their lead at the 61:42 mark, when a pass into the box allowed Eppler to bury another one home.
Otterbein didn't go away, as sophomore
Paul Hensley sliced the deficit in half with a goal less than four minutes later. He beat the defense and ripped a shot from the right side into upper 90.
The Cards were unfortunately red carded with 20 minutes remaining in the contest, helping the hosts eventually hang on and find an insurance goal down the stretch. An initial shot was deflected off Otterbein keeper Andrew McIloy, but a follow-up from Brady Gesenheus went home.
Otterbein actually finished with an 11-6 shot advantage but was whistled for doubles the amount of fouls, at 21-10.
