WESTERVILLE, Ohio- Women's basketball held on in the second leg of a Saturday double-header against Heidelberg, emerging victorious 77-74. The Cardinals were paced by a double-double effort from
Abbie Scholz, recording 20 points and 13 rebounds, while
Abby Zerkle followed close behind, scoring 19 of her own.
The victory gives the Cards their 10th of the season, now standing at 10-7 overall, and 5-5 in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The loss for Heidelberg drops the Student Princes to 6-11 overall and 2-8 in OAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both sides came out of the gates hot, scoring a combined 38 points in the first quarter with Heidelberg holding the 20-18 advantage after 10.
- The second quarter pace slowed down some, with more fouls being called both ways, but Otterbein still managed to outscore the visitors 22-14, to take a 40-34 lead into the locker room.
- The Cards continued to play strong, with the offense running through Scholz in the third quarter, taking a seven-point advantage into the final frame.
- The Otterbein lead in the 4th quarter ballooned to 13 at one point, before Heidelberg was forced to take a timeout.
- Following the timeout Heidelberg began battling back, eventually trailing by just two with 1:25 on the clock.
- Jenna Hoschouer rose to the occasion and knocked down three of four free throws down the stretch to help secure victory for the Cards.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Heidelberg's Brooke Beamer led all scorers on the evening, going for 24 points.
- Three Cardinals scored in double figures, Angelia Jackson joined Zerkle and Scholz with 11 points.
- Scholz recorded her second double-double of the season, her first came on 12/29 against Dension where she went for 14 points and 11 rebounds.
