BEXLEY, Ohio- In the first game of February, Capital was able to jump out to an early lead over the Cardinals and never look back. Otterbein finished the game shooting nearly 44 percent, but a cold start matched with a 48 percent first half effort from the Crusaders proved too much to overcome. Capital led by 17 at the half, and remained comfortably ahead in the second half to emerge victorious, 74-58.
The loss knocks the Cardinals down to 10-9 overall, and 5-7 within the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital now sits at 10-9 overall and 6-6 within OAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Otterbein found themselves trailing on the road early, down 23-9 with 1:05 remaining before a seven to zero Cardinal run cut the deficit to 23-16 at the end of quarter one.
- The Cardinal offense fell cold in the second quarter and Capital took advantage, outscoring the Cards 17-7 over 10 minutes.
- The Crusaders led 40-23 at halftime after shooting 48%, including 5-8 from the three point line, Otterbein was just 1-8.
- Capital maintained its distance in the second half to earn a season split with Otterbein, 74-58.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The schools will split the season series, with Otterbein winning the first game on 12/7/2019 in Westerville 80-60.
- The Cardinals saw two new faces score in double digits. Peyton McCord scored a team-high 11 points, and Danielle Horsley added 10 with both coming off the bench.
- Capital's Cassidy Bosch paced all scorers with 20 points, while Elli Wachtman added an 11 point 12 rebound double-double.
