Men's Hoops Falls in Closing Seconds at BW

BEREA, Ohio- Otterbein men's basketball fell just short of knocking off Baldwin Wallace in their own gym, giving up the winning basket with 5.2 seconds left. The Cardinals led the Yellow Jackets 60-59 before Michael Quiring scored a layup to escape the Cards, 61-60.

Baldwin Wallace finishes the regular season at 14-11 overall, and 10-8 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action. Otterbein falls to 8-17 on the final day of the regular season, and 5-13 during OAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first 20 minutes of action was a seesaw affair with both teams exchanging the lead twice.

  • Freshman standout Dallas Patrick knocked down a buzzer beating three going into the half to cut the BW lead to just three, 28-25.

  • Otterbein took control the start the second half, going on a 10-0 run over the first six minutes of play.

  • The lead was cut to eight before a Justin Carter and-one pushed it back up to 11 with 10:49 on the clock. However, the Cardinals relinquished the lead at 7:41 with BW pushing out ahead 47-46.

  • Otterbein then regained control and held onto it until the closing seconds, when BW's Quiring hit the game-winning layup. Carter saw a chance to win the game as time expired, but the shot would not fall.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Carter led all scorers with 25-points on 11-of-15 shooting. Dallas Patrick and Reid Black were the other Cards in double figures, scoring 13 and 12 respectively.

  • Otterbein shot 55 percent from the field compared to just 44 percent on the BW, but committed almost twice as many turnovers. Baldwin Wallace converted those 18 giveaways into 15 points.

  • Both sides combined to shoot just 8 of 32 from long range. As a result, 84 of the game's points occurred in the paint.

  • Drew Sova tallied team-highs of 12 points and six rebounds to pace the home squad.
