WESTERVILLE, Ohio – A "Sunday Funday" at Memorial Stadium ended with the Otterbein women's lacrosse team getting itself back into the win column, breaking open a tie score at intermission to eventually secure a 14-9 victory over Wittenberg.
The Cardinals, now 2-1 on the season, received five points from both
Kiera Mulcahy and
Cameron Finnegan while
Ema Pusecker added another four of her own. Otterbein also avenges last year's narrow 16-14 defeat over in Springfield.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both sides traded goals early before a run midway through the period allowed Wittenberg to open a 5-2 lead. Otterbein regrouped quickly with a 3-0 run of its own to lock the game back up entering halftime.
Â
- The Cardinals caught fire to begin the second half with an 8-1 run that helped create separation. Otterbein's defense limited the Tigers to just one goal across a 35-minute span of game time.
Â
- Otterbein led by as many as seven goals entering the homestretch until the Tigers netted three of the game's last four scores to shrink the final margin.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Mulcahy, rocking arguably the flashiest cleats on the field, backed up her spiffy fashion by contributing in multiple areas. She finished with four goals, one assists, six draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Â
- Leah McNutt made 11 timely saves in goal as the defense forced Wittenberg into 25 turnovers on the day. Julie Platz tied for a game-best three caused TO's individually.
Â
- Otterbein posted a 28-20 advantage in shots on goal and was successful on 18 of 24 clear attempts. Seven different Cardinals found the back of the net.
Â
- Rachel Bernard and Gabby Zysik combined for seven goals on Wittenberg's side. The visitors, who fell to Capital in their recent season opener, were 4 of 9 on free-position attempts.
