Cards Split Day Two and Three in North Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- After taking the first two games on Sunday, Otterbein split its next four contests on Monday and Tuesday. The Cardinals claimed victories over Muhlenberg and St. Elizabeth, but fell in eight innings to both Wilkes and King's. Softball will carry a 4-2 record into Wednesday's contests, with four more games to be played on the trip.

MONDAY:
  • Otterbein started the day with a 3-1 victory over Muhlenberg.

  • The Cards scored all three runs in the sixth inning.

  • Katrina Wierzbicki recorded one RBI, while Jess Gunter added two on a double to left center.

  • Gunter also picked up the win in a complete game four strikeout effort.

  • The Cardinals fell in game two of the day to Wilkes, the Colonels won it on a walk-off in the bottom of the eighth inning.

  • Savannah McCoppin recorded a stolen base, Kayla Queer and Maria Herron both added doubles.

TUESDAY:
  • Similar to Monday the Cardinals kicked off the day with a victory over St. Elizabeth, 4-2.

  • Lewis was then brought home by Courtney Hackney who singled on a line drive to center field.

  • In the fourth inning Sami Ange added to the lead, driving home McCoppin on an RBI single up the middle.

  • Hannah Dobrinick scored the final run of the game on a solo home run to left field that was gone as soon as it left the bat.
  • The Cards showed strong fight in game two, trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh before a Wierzbicki single brought home the tying run.

  • Otterbein could not hold off King's in the top of the eighth, a double down the right field line plated two more runs to hand the Cards just their second loss of the season.
