ADA, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team was tripped up Wednesday night on the road, as its 13-match winning streak was snapped at the hands of host Ohio Northern inside Kerscher Stadium.
The Cardinals, suffering their first loss since way back in the season opener to nationally-ranked Case Western on September 4, fall to second place in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) standings.
However, Otterbein still controls its fate in the quest for a regular-season title… hosting first-place and cross-town rival Capital come Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals sit 7-1 within the OAC standings while the newly-renamed Comets are just above at 7-0-1.
The winner of Saturday's match would clinch an outright OAC regular-season crown. Ohio Northern is positioned in third at 6-1-1 against the league right now.
Both Otterbein and Ohio Northern played through a scoreless, tightly-contested first half in what marked a rematch of the OAC Tournament Championship this past spring. Just five total shots taken were attempted between the sides leading into the break.
The Polar Bears eventually scored both of their goals 10 minutes apart, beginning when Kylie Cabana scored off a corner-kick sequence in the 61st minute. Otterbein trailed for the first time in exactly 1,050 minutes, dating back to the first half against Ohio Wesleyan on September 8.
ONU doubled its lead in the 71st minute when Alyssa Beckett found teammate Cienna Kuhn for an insurance goal. There were just 15 total shots (nine on goal) throughout regulation.
Otterbein's
Alaina Reher made three saves, all in the first half, while counterpart Kristy Catrine had four… all after intermission. The match also mustered just a few corner kicks.
First kick from Memorial Stadium against Capital is scheduled for 2 p.m.
