Cards Blast BW for Best Start in Program History

WESTERVILLE, Ohio- Men's Soccer collected its ninth win of the season Saturday afternoon, marking the best start to a season since 2001 when the Cardinals started 9-0 before falling in their tenth contest.

The Cardinals remain in a three-way-tie for first in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings and are now 9-0-2, meanwhile Baldwin Wallace falls to 6-7-1 and 0-3 in OAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cards took the lead early in the 21st minute when Will Isaac sent a corner kick into the box where Gabe Sharrock found it and finished it with his head.

  • Otterbein added another after a beautiful throw-in from Carter Ely that found Joshua Conroy alone in the box. Conroy taped it over to Isaac, who finished the one-time shot.

  • The third score of the first half came on yet another beautiful passing play; Tord Heskestad found Kyle Haberkorn, who then sent a pass into the box where Coby Stover earned his first goal of the season.

  • The final goal of the afternoon came in the 86th minute on another set-piece; this time, Stover sent a corner kick into the box where Conroy used the back of his head to direct the ball into the lower-left corner.

  • The Cardinal defense, playing without its big man in the middle, Nathan Neal, shut down the Yellow Jacket attack all afternoon, limiting them to just five shots on goal.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Otterbein offense produced nine corner kicks, two resulting in goals.

  • Andrew McIlvoy stood tall all afternoon, making five saves, including a one-handed swat early in the first half.

  • Otterbein has won four of the last five matches in this series, with the previous year's meeting ending in a 0-0 tie.
