BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team continued rolling Saturday afternoon up north, beating host Baldwin Wallace by a score of 4-1 inside George Finnie Stadium.
The Cardinals, now 3-0 early on in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play, win their ninth match in a row after the opening defeat to nationally-ranked and undefeated Case Western Reserve. Otterbein has outscored its first three league opponents by an aggregate of 9-1.
Sophomore
Morgan Somers helped Otterbein settle into an earl 2-0 lead against the Yellow Jackets, initially scoring just 69 seconds into the contest after finishing a cross against two BW defenders in the box. She then doubled up the Otterbein lead in the 24th minute off a corner-kick assist from
Delaney Earl, heading the ball perfectly into the right side of the net.
Baldwin Wallace got one back at the 27:05 mark on a penalty kick, and the Cardinals settled for the 2-1 lead into halftime. Otterbein held an 11-4 shot advantage prior to intermission.
Freshman
Bailey Zanella extended Otterbein's lead back to a two-goal margin just minutes into the second half, hustling to find a loose ball toward the far post in a crowded box and burying it home.
Classmate
Lauren Alley continued flashing her shifty footwork and ball skills later on, working a defender on the left side before burying home a shot from 20-25 yards out. Otterbein finished with a lopsided 26-5 edge in total shots, including a 13-2 margin on goal.
The Cardinals (9-1) took all six corner kicks on the day and forced BW keeper Katie Scott into making eight of the team's nine saves. Otterbein has now won the last five matchups in the series with Baldwin Wallace.
Otterbein will be back on the road after Fall Break, heading back up to the Cleveland area for a matchup with John Carroll on Wednesday night.
