WESTERVILLE, Ohio – After earning their first victory last night in New Concord Otterbein men's basketball failed to find any rhythm Saturday night ultimately falling to the visiting Muskingum Muskies, 78-67. The Muskies were able to pull away in the second half to hand Otterbein its third loss of the season, while the Muskies move to 3-5 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both sides went blow-for-blow in the first half, with Otterbein eventually taking a 33-31 advantage into the break thanks to a Dallas Patrick put back layup as time expired.

  • Otterbein held the largest lead of the half at the 9:27 mark, 18-13, but a quick 5-0 Muskie run erased that margin. Both sides traded buckets down the stretch before the Patrick buzzer beater gave the Cards the lead.

  • Muskingum exploded out of the gate in the second half, jumping out to an early six-point lead at 16:30.

  • The Muskies went on a 14 to 7 run over the next seven minutes of action, ballooning their lead to 56-43.

  • Muskingum eventually pulled ahead by 19 and never let its foot off the gas, earning the weekend split.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Muskingum dominated the paint, scoring 42 of its 78 points while Otterbein managed just 26 for the game.

  • The bench was key in victory for the Muskies, outscoring the Cardinal reserves 36-20.

  • Patrick once again paced the Cardinal offense, scoring a game-high 16 points while grabbing six boards.

  • Brennan Rains (15 points) and Bryson Lane (10 points) joined their backcourt mate in double-figures, while Reid Black just missed out on a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

UP NEXT:
  • Otterbein will travel to Wilmington next Friday, game time is slated for 7 p.m.
