Women's Hoops Completes Sweep of Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – A clean sweep of Muskingum was in store for the Otterbein women's basketball team Saturday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) rematch, as the Cardinals cruised to a 78-59 triumph on the road.

Otterbein improves to 5-3 on the season with the victory, coming by almost the same exact score as Friday night's 78-56 decision back in Westerville. The Cards have now won seven-straight games in the series, all by double digits.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Otterbein exploded to drop 25 points in the first quarter, taking advantage of nine Muskingum turnovers en route to a combined 15 points from Bryn Mangold and Abby Zerkle.

  • The Muskies only trailed by seven early in the second frame, but Otterbein kicked back into gear (with a 13-2 run) and carried a 45-30 edge into the break.

  • Otterbein quickly pushed the margin to 20 points in the third quarter, ran the gap to as many as 27 at one point, and never looked back.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Mangold dropped a new career-high 20 points, shooting 7 of 11 from the field and making all six free throws. Zerkle scored 15 while Angelia Jackson had a double-double for the second night in a row, going for 14 points and another 11 rebounds.

  • Freshman Claire Radabaugh contributed nine points after not playing in Friday's contest.

  • Muskingum committed 21 turnovers compared to just nine giveaways by Otterbein.

  • The Cardinals finished with a 21-2 advantage in fast-break scoring.

  • Otterbein went 19 of 22 at the free-throw line while the Muskies converted 7 of 10.

UP NEXT:

Otterbein will be back in action next weekend, taking on Wilmington College in a home-and-home series. The two schools will play Friday night in the Rike Center before a rematch down at Wilmington come Saturday.
