WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein dropped an unfortunate overtime contest with visiting John Carroll Friday in the Rike Center, as the Blue Streaks erased a late deficit to force the extra session and ultimately prevail.
JCU, trailing by double digits with 5:35 to play, closed the gap and somehow walked away with an 85-78 victory in Ohio Athletic Conference play. Prior to tip-off, Otterbein recognized seniors

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both sides struggled to score early, with Otterbein leading just 5-2 after five minute of action. The Cards eventually opened a 15-4 cushion and kept momentum after a baseline dunk from Dallas Patrick at the 12:52 mark.
- JCU settled in and began chipping away. The Blue Streaks, consistently down by 8-10 points moving forward, found a late surge to only trail 39-35 at intermission.
- John Carroll maintained that assertiveness into the second half, quickly tying the score and then taking its first lead (45-44) since it was 2-1 early on.
- The contest remained a one-possession dogfight until Otterbein strung together a 10-0 run, including three-pointers from Dallas Patrick and Bryson Lane followed by a pair of technical free throws.
- JCU regrouped and closed regulation on a 13-3 run, punctuated by a game-tying triple from sharpshooter Jackson Sartain with 53 seconds left.
- Both teams missed an opportunity to go ahead, and then overtime was all JCU as the visitors scored 12 seconds in and never trailed.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Dallas Patrick led all players with 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting.
- Otterbein gave the ball away 25 times, as JCU finished with a 22-8 edge in points off turnovers.
- Bryson Lane and Justin Carter combined for 32 points, both making six shots.
- Sartain, the NCAA Division III active leader for made three-pointers, led the Blue Streaks with 20 points and five makes from behind the arc. His team was just 7 of 25 overall from long range.
- The game saw 15 lead changes.
