WILMINGTON RESULTS
OHIO NORTHERN RESULTS
ADA, Ohio – The Otterbein wrestling team got back on the mat Sunday afternoon following last weekend's unfortunate cancellation due to inclement weather. The Cardinals ultimately walked away from the ONU Sports Center splitting a pair of duals, besting Wilmington to begin the action before a loss to the host Polar Bears.
Otterbein pulled away to defeat the Quakers by a final score of 39-9, but Ohio Northern flipped the script in the second outing for the Cardinals with a 30-13 margin.
The Cards, back to relative full strength after competing with roughly half its starting lineup during opening weekend, assumed an initial 18-0 lead over Wilmington by virtue of
Chase Nelson,
Jacob Williams and
Jarrod Setliff earning forfeit victories.
Joey Buckland (141) tallied a decisive technical fall, nationally-ranked
Ryan Whitten (157) pinned his opponent in 2:25,
Kyle De Moss (174) posted a major decision and
Joey Bradberry (184) delivered a fall within 40 seconds. A few others also competed in extra/exhibition matches.
Otterbein then fell behind 6-0 to ONU before Buckland registered his second win of the day, this time a much closer 2-0 decision. Whitten followed with another victory, this time a 6-0 decision over No 10-ranked Schuyler Caprella in a battle of national-caliber standouts.
Bradberry and Setliff added W's for Otterbein down the stretch. Bradberry remained in control for a 15-1 major while Setliff recorded a notable triumph in his affair. He outlasted No. 6-ranked Cash Thompson for a nice 7-3 decision.
A nice list of extra matches were also on the menu, as freshman
Nathan Leko (5-3 decision) and senior
Michael Duzzny (9-4 decision) came out on top. Duzzny will soon be attending Wright State University as part of the ROTC program and working toward a master's in history.
