Softball Sweeps John Carroll to Start OAC Play

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein softball started Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon by sweeping John Carroll to improve to 5-1 on the year. The Cardinals took game one from the Blue Streaks 5-2, and ended game two in five innings by a score of 9-0.

GAME ONE:
  • The Cardinals got on the board first in the 2nd when Isabelle Fisher sacrificed herself to score Macy Allen.
     
  • In the next at-bat Katrina Wierzbicki went yard for her team leading third home run of the season, Megan Payne scored to give Otterbein a 3-0 lead.
     
  • The Cards added on in the third, Allen hit a SAC fly to left field that scored Maria Herron.
     
  • Fisher earned her second RBI of the day on a single to right field that brought Hannah Dobrinick around to score.
     
  • JCU scored their only runs of the day in the 5th and 7th.
     
  • Jess Gunter finished the day going six innings and allowing just two hits, she struck out two in earning her second win of the year.
     
GAME TWO:
  • Otterbein established themselves early at the plate in the second game with a Dobrinick double to right center that brought Wierzbicki around for the 1-0 lead.
     
  • Wierzbicki hit her second home run of the day in the 2nd inning, this time it was a solo shot.
     
  • Hannah Lewis added to the lead in the 3rd with a long two RBI single to right field.
     
  • The Cardinals all but ended the game in the fourth inning. Herron hit an RBI single, followed by an Allen RBI single down the left-field-line. Kendall Sestili pushed the lead to 9-0 on an RBI single to left center field.
     
  • Brook Crosby earned her second win of the season, allowing just two hits while striking out five in the shortened game.
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Cards collected 15 hits on the afternoon, while also earning seven walks.
     
  • Otterbein pitching only gave up five hits to the Blue Streaks in both games.
     
  • Katrina Wierzbicki and Macy Allen each drove in three runs between the two games to lead the Cards. Isabelle Fisher, Hannah Lewis and Kendall Sestili each drove in two runs on the day.
     
UP NEXT:
  • The Cards will travel to University Heights tomorrow for more doubleheader action with the Blue Streaks. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
